Unfortunately for travelers, the airline is entitled to make these type of changes - changes which can certainly throw a wrench in travel plans which have been made for many months. It sounds like the airline has offered you the appropriate compensation -- even though it is unfortunate that they do not currently have a direct flight planned.
Since you made your reservations using your Platinum Amex card, your American Express Travel Insurance may provide you with additional compensation under the trip cancellation provisions of the insurance, depending on the specific costs you have incurred. Gather up your receipts, including any credit card charges incurred, and contact to file a claim on your travel insurance.
Thank you for your question.

-- Contributed by: n.rossMy husband and I purchased 2 direct flight from JFK to Bangkok on Thai air last Feb for travel in Oct. We received a confirmation email and have paid in full. We recently got an email stating we no longer have flight confirmation and the flight is no longer available. They have offered a refund or a flight on another carrier with stops making our flight over 25 hours instead of the original 17. Thus losing 2 vacation days. Are we entitled to an upgrade or other compensation? It seems very unfair for them to have had over 3 thousand dollar for 6 months only to offer worse flights as compensation. If I wanted a flight with a stop I would have originally booked that for half the price 6 months ago. What are we entitled to?

Yes, you will get credit for a flight delay if you purchase your trip on your Amex card.
Thanks for your question.

If you purchase your ticket on a scheduled airline with your American Express Card, America Express Travel Insurance covers you if the airline's performance causes you to: 1) miss a connection, 2) have a delayed flight departure, 3) have a flight cancelled, or 4) if you are denied boarding.
You would receive: 1) up to $200 per day, up to a maximum of 2 days, if no alternative transportation is made available to the Covered Person by 9 p.m., and 2) up to $50 per day, up to a maximum of 2 days, if no alternative transportation is made available to the Covered Person within three (3) hours of the original Scheduled Airline flight departure time.

Yes. The American Express Platinum Cards have a program called Global Assist. Through Global Assist, American Express will arrange for English-speaking doctors and hospitals to assist the cardholder or the cardholder's family with their medical needs. More information is available at LoveToKnow Credit Cards.
