History of Wawanesa Insurance

Alonzo Fowler Kempton from Wawanesa, Manitoba founded Wawanesa Insurance on September 25, 1896. Mr. Kempton convinced 20 farmers to invest in this enterprise at $20 each. The Wawanesa Insurance Company was born. Charles Kerr wrote the first policy for a thresher. The amount of the insurance was $600 and the three-year premium was $24. The first policies were written without a premium payment because the farmers would not have the payment until after the harvest had been completed.
