COBRA Health Insurance Explained

COBRA health insurance is offered through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. This Act allows employees who are laid off to continue receiving the same medical insurance benefits even after losing their jobs. Although the costs usually increase since the employer is no longer augmenting the cost, the cost to maintain health insurance through COBRA can be much less costly than allowing the policy to lapse and obtaining individual insurance through another insurer.
