Safe Auto Insurance
From LoveToKnow Insurance
Safe Auto Insurance is a company that markets itself as offering affordable auto coverage for Americans. It keeps its rates low by focusing its offerings on the minimum insurance required by each state’s laws.
History
Safe Auto Insurance was founded in 2003 and is based out of Columbus, Ohio. This company offers its services in 14 states:
- Pennsylvania
- Ohio
- Indiana
- Illinois
- Missouri
- Kentucky
- Tennessee
- South Carolina
- Georgia
- Mississippi
- Louisiana
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- Arizona
Opening a Policy with Safe Auto Insurance
The company is different from other insurance officers because it doesn’t have agents available for in-person visits. Instead, potential customers are invited to begin their new policies via telephone, with the option of having it activated on the spot. The call center is open 24/7 - even on weekends and holidays - and can be reached at 1-800-723-3288.
Once the policy is underwritten, Safe Auto asserts that customers will receive paperwork within the next three business days. Customers can also choose to have it emailed to them the same day.
Proof of Insurance
Since the main marketing focus for this company is minimum insurance coverage, Safe Auto stresses the fact that it sends out documents that can serve as the required “proof of insurance.” Although the paperwork is sent out with the original copy of the insurance policy, customers can request to have it mailed or faxed again at any time.
Getting a Quote
For those that are still shopping around, online quotes are available through Safe Auto's website, as long as the person provides the following information:
- Name and telephone number
- State and zip code
- Number of drivers and vehicles needing insurance
- Job title of each driver
- Insurance history for each driver
- VIN for each vehicle
- Type of coverage desired
- License number for each driver
The site uses encryption to keep this information safe.
Eligibility
Despite the name of the company, Safe Auto Insurance does not only insure the safest of drivers. In fact, most drivers are eligible for coverage if they live in one of the qualifying states. However, it’s important to note that insurance premiums are based on the risk the driver brings to the insurance company. Those with more at-fault accidents on their records and/or points on their driver’s licenses can expect to pay more. Also, depending on their activity while insured, their rates can go up at the end of each six-month period.
Filing Claims
Safe Auto handles accidents and other claims through the same toll-free number used to request a quote. The company doesn’t have any affiliated appraisers or recommended body shops. Instead, Safe Auto sends out an independent appraiser in the claimant’s area and lets the customer choose where to go to get the vehicle fixed without making a recommendation.
Making Payments
Policy holders have a varirty of payment options:
- Send funds online
- Send a check through the mail
- Pay by credit card or debit card
- Call in a payment over the phone
- Send a money order by mail
They can pay for the entire policy at one time or in bi-monthly or monthly installments. People who make a lump sum payment will receive a discount on their premium.
Planned Expansion
Safe Auto has plans to expand to more states as the company grows. In 2009, the company obtained licenses in Arkansas, Kansas and Colorado, making those states likely to be the next three. Even though coverage is not offered in all areas, drivers insured by Safe Auto can still file claims for damages they may incur while driving anywhere in the country.
