Progressive Home Insurance
From LoveToKnow Insurance
Progressive home insurance is available to homeowners, renters, and to residents who own or rent a condominium. Although this company is well known as an auto insurance provider, they also offer a wide range of insurance coverage options for dwellings.
Progressive Home Insurance Policies
Coverage is available to applicants for a variety of insurance products for homeowners, renters, and people residing in condominiums either as renters or owners.
Homeowners
Progressive home insurance covers the dwelling as well as the contents inside of the home. This includes furniture, appliances, and other items contained within the home. It also covers certain instances of bodily harm, such as paying the medical bills of a visitor injured on your property. Policies also cover housing expenses in case homeowners must seek temporary housing elsewhere due to a covered incident like fire or a tornado.
Homeowners can purchase additional insurance riders through Progressive at an extra cost. Additional policies are often purchased by homeowners who want extra coverage beyond the limits of the policy as well as by people who have particularly expensive items (art, electronics, etc) that may not be fully covered by a standard policy.
Renters
The actual home or apartment should be covered by an insurance policy paid for by the landlord. Renters should still purchase additional coverage for their personal belongings, as extra protection in case they accidentally incur damage inside the home or apartment they rent and for personal liability protection in case someone is injured.
Condos
Progressive puts condominiums in a separate category from both homeowners insurance and renters insurance. This is because while most condominiums are covered by a cumulative policy purchased through the condo association, these policies may not cover personal property within each individual condo - leaving individual owners vulnerable to huge expenses if disaster strikes.
Condo insurance is not available through Progressive in the following states:
- Alaska
- Florida
- Hawaii
- New Hampshire
Flood Insurance
Flood insurance is not covered in a standard homeowners insurance policy issued through Progressive, although damage from flooding may be covered adequately by a renters or condo insurance policy. Although flood insurance is not required in all cases, it is still an important coverage to consider purchasing and is usually relatively inexpensive.
Progressive sells flood insurance through Homesite Insurance.
Get a Quote
Progressive is an insurance company that is well known for providing quick policy quotes, and this is true for all three home insurance policies. Obtaining a quote can be done one of three ways:
- Online at the Progressive home insurance website
- Over the phone: 1-800-PROGRESSIVE
- At a local Progressive office, if available
Some independent insurance agents are authorized to offer Progressive policies for homeowners and renters. If you want to speak to an agent face-to-face, call the toll-free Progressive customer service number to find out if there is an office near you.
Be prepared to answer a long list of questions before receiving an accurate quote. Progressive suggests that applicants take an inventory of their belongings before requesting a quote because this information will allow the customer service representative to give a more accurate quote. It is also helpful to have a copy of any current policies handy when you request the quote because information regarding current policies will speed the process up considerably.
You should also be aware that a credit report will be pulled on you when you request a quote.
Existing Policyholders
Progressive offers plenty of benefits to existing home insurance policy members:
- Exemplary customer service
- Online access for account information
- Online access to customer service representatives
- Access to customer service representatives via telephone
- Quick response to claims
For more information regarding an existing home insurance policy through Progressive, contact a customer service representative or check your policy.
