Home and Rural Appliances Warranties
From LoveToKnow Insurance
Home and rural appliances warranties are available from a variety of companies. When the customer lives in a rural setting, however, the biggest obstacle may be finding repair people who are willing to make the trek out to the house.
Home and Rural Appliances Warranties Explained
A home warranty is a policy which covers a broad range of repair services for a home. For example, if a garage door opener stops functioning or a stove breaks down, a homeowner with a home warranty can call the warranty company and have a repair person sent out quickly. The repair person either repairs or replaces the faulty appliance according to the terms of the warranty. Sometimes this means the homeowner receives the repairs at no charge, but sometimes there is a hefty deductible. It all depends on the original agreement.
Appliance warranties are issued by the manufacturer, the retailer, or may be purchased separately from a warranty company by the buyer of the appliance. Owners of expensive high-end appliances may seek out extended warranties in the hopes of avoiding costly repair or replacement costs.
Rural Areas
Rural areas are defined as being less-densely populated as city areas, or as being an agriculturally-based area. A rural area does not necessarily need to fall into these categories exactly, and in many instances a geographic region classified as rural may have a bustling community which was simply once considered rural and never reclassified.
The rural classification comes into play with home and appliance warranties when the home is in a geographic area that is not necessarily easy to reach. Repair people who are not familiar with rural locations may not enjoy the long drives and searching that can come with service calls in rural locations, so it may be more difficult to find a warranty company which will happily head out to any location for a service call. This is why it is so important to make it clear to home warranty companies that the home is located in a rural area, and to make sure that there is no exorbitant additional fees attached to a service call in a rural location. Some companies will not issue home warranty policies to homes which are too far out of reach from their normal jurisdiction.
Property Insurance
Insuring a particular appliance is not usually affected by a rural geographic designation. Unless the appliance is used for an unusual purpose related to the rural environment then an average appliance insurance policy is usually sufficient. When a potential customer calls for a quote on appliance insurance the company will notify them if there is an issue related to the rural classification of their home.
Find Rural Home Warranties
A good portion of the home warranty insurance companies who advertise online accept applications for coverage from homeowners in rural areas. Many of these companies require a home inspection prior to issuing the policy to notate the condition of the home. This is to make sure that the home appliances are not in such a deteriorated state that in a matter of months they will all need to be replaced at the expense of the warranty company. Check with each company to make sure that they issue warranties for rural locations. Not every warranty company will specify this information on their website, so potential customers may need to contact the company to make sure that rural homes are acceptable for coverage.
Needed or Not
The decision as to whether to seek out additional insurance coverage for appliances or a home warranty is up to each individual homeowner. The cost of appliance insurance and home warranties must be weighed against the potential cost of repairs or replacements of the appliances within the home. This stands true for homes within rural areas as well as for homes within the city.
