Geisinger Health Insurance Plans: Get a Quote
1. To get a quote on an individual policy, start by going to the Geisinger Health Plan Web site at www.thehealthplan.com.
2. Locate the link for “individuals and families” to proceed.
3. To start the process you’ll need to answer a few questions that should only take a moment to answer. Compared to the quote system on some other health insurer Web sites, it is a much faster process.
Please note, however, that to received detailed plan information, you will need to provide Geisinger with your personal contact information.
Geisinger Individual Plans
Geisinger offers six PPO plans for individuals to choose from. All of the plans have a $20 co-pay for Primary Care Physician office visits, and a $45 co-pay for Specialist office visits.
The main differences with each plan are the deductible and the out-of-pocket maximum. Surprisingly, the monthly premium is nearly the same for each plan, even for people of different ages. On average, the most expensive plan, called PPO Plan 1, is only about $30-40 more per month than the cheapest plan, PPO Plan 6. Here is a brief overview of the six individual plans that are available:
- PPO Plan 1: $250/500 Deductible, Coinsurance 10%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $750/$1,500
- PPO Plan 2: $250/$500 Deductible, Coinsurance 20%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $1,500/$3,000
- PPO Plan 3: $500/$1,000 Deductible, Coinsurance 10%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $1,500/$3,000
- PPO Plan 4: $500/$1,000 Deductible, Coinsurance 20%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $3,000/$6,000
- PPO Plan 5: $1000/$2,000 Deductible, Coinsurance 10%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $3,000/$6,000
- PPO Plan 6: $1000/$2,000 Deductible, Coinsurance 20%, Out-of-Pocket Maximum $6,000/$12,000
It may be tempting to select the high deductible and high out-of-pocket plans to have a lower monthly premium. However, if an accident happens and you need to visit the emergency room, your expenses will be very high. Make sure you have a budget for such a large expense before deciding to take a cheaper plan.
