Geico Homeowners Insurance Options

Geico has policies available for a variety of living situations.

Homeowners

Geico homeowners insurance is designed to cover the cost of repairing or replacing a dwelling and the contents contained within in the event of a natural disaster or other covered situation. The policy is also designed to protect homeowners from the liability involved when a guest or visitor experiences an injury on the property.

Policies issued through this insurer can be paid for directly by the homeowner or paid by the mortgage servicing company as a portion of the escrow payment. Geico doesn't decide who pays the bill, because that decision is made by the mortgage lender and the borrower.

Discounts are available to homeowners who have specific organizational affiliations or who have certain safety features on the home, such as a burglar alarm or a close proximity to a fire station. A Geico homeowners insurance representative can assist applicants in reviewing potential discounts to insurance policies.

Renters

Renters do not generally need to purchase an insurance policy to cover the cost of replacing a dwelling in the event of a fire, natural disaster or other situation; however, they should look into a policy to cover the cost of replacing their personal belongings in the event of a loss.

Geico offers renters insurance policies through Insurance Counselors Inc. Policies cover liability issues as well as property replacement. This can be very useful because not all landlords cover adequate liability insurance to protect tenants from the costs associated with lawsuits as the result of medical expenses and other damages to injured visitors.

Condominiums

Condo owners and residents can obtain an insurance policy to cover damages and losses to personal property within the condo. Coverage can also be extended to protect policyholders from the costs of replacing or repairing fixtures and other items within the condo in the event of a fire, flood or other situation.

Geico does not issue master condominium coverage plans, but does issue policies to individual condominium owners. Potential customers should review the master insurance plan issued by the condominium association in order to figure out what amount and type of coverage they need.

This insurance company also provides specific insurance policies for co-ops.

Landlords

Geico offers special insurance policies for people who own their homes and rent the homes out to tenants. Although renters should obtain their own policy for personal property, landlords should have adequate coverage to cover the cost of replacing the home in the event of a total loss. The cost of this coverage rests solely on the landlord and is generally not passed along to the tenants.
