Way back in the early 1900s, Herman Wittwer was struggling to sell insurance in Wisconsin. An innovative thinker, he believed that farmers, as a group, presented few risks of accidents and claims. After all, they rarely drove, and when they did, it was in farmland. With this brilliant idea and a dream, Wittwer set out on his own and launched Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. The company was born October 3, 1927.
